To renew your inspiration, we've teamed up with Meijer to talk about some of our favorite products and Kacie is also sharing some simple tricks for making healthier choices on the daily. Check it out!
Meijer is definitely our one-stop shop for all beauty related items (as seen in this post and this one), but we also love to shop at Meijer for our exercise and fitness needs. Doing the same repetitive workout routine can get boring, but adding delicious pre-workout snacks–like Muscle Milk and protein bars–and cute workout gear can help you stay on track and motivated. After all, what's more motivating than cute workout clothing?
Kacie's Fit Tips
Find a routine you love. I love, love, love working out and I always have! The calm I feel after a good workout is highly addictive but I'm also not one to wander into a gym and use equipment. While I have no problem working hard and pushing myself, I find it much easier when someone tells me what to do. So I found a gym that offers only classes. While toning classes like yoga and barre are nice, I tend to enjoy more intense classes so I take Les Mills BODYPUMP on Tuesdays, spin on Thursdays and supplement with cardio on my off days. It's all about finding a routine that works for you. Another tip: I head straight to the gym after work because I've found that if I go home first, I'm less likely to go at all. Especially when my two cute kitties really don't want to see me leave again.
Drink plenty of water. The goal is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day and honestly, it's not that hard to do! Each morning I drink a bottle of water in the car before I arrive at work and won't let myself have breakfast until it's gone. Then I drink plenty of water at my desk throughout the day but I've found that if it's in a tumbler with a straw, I drink more than when it's in a bottle with a cap. Green tea is also known for its varied health benefits so if I feel like snacking between breakfast and lunch, I'll have a cup of unsweetened green tea to curb the cravings.
Cut back on what you crave. While Jaime tends to love salt, I'll admit that I am easily addicted to sugar. So cutting back was top priority for me and the first place I started was in my breakfast options. Yogurts and oatmeal can have so much sugar in them so I started making my own varieties. I make plain oats and add a whole sliced banana and one tablespoon of powder peanut butter. I also buy plain yogurt and frozen (no sugar added) fruit to mash up and mix in. If I want a snack in the evening I'll have fruit or a few handfuls of plain, dry Cheerios rather than cookies or a sugary granola bar. For those who tend to choose salty breakfast foods, Jaime recommends options such as avocado toast or scrambled eggs with turkey bacon.
Find balance in your diet and workout plan. Listen. I love to eat and I'm not one to deprive myself so I've found little ways around it. For example, if I go out to a big lunch with my co-workers, I plan to have a very small dinner such as scrambled eggs or a spinach salad. If I indulge in a cupcake, I'll do an extra mile on the treadmill that evening. If I know I'll be having pizza for dinner, I won't have any snacks throughout the day and I'll have a healthier lunch.
