24 Hour Guide to Indianapolis: Holiday Edition

Have we ever told you how much we love our city? (That’s Indianapolis, by the way)

Have we ever told you how much we love our city during the holidays?? While it’s already our favorite time of year, Indy literally comes to life during what is truly the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. I mean, we’re home to the ‘World’s Largest Christmas Tree’ so you know it’s going to be good!

Whether you’re a local looking for festive activities for the weekend or will simply be in town for a day or two, we have teamed up with our friends at Eventbrite to share a 24 Hour Guide to Indianapolis: Holiday Edition. Eventbrite is a great place to find local events, or to create your own! Take a few minutes to travel along with us on our perfectly festive day.

Starbucks in hand, our first magical stop is the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) for Christmas at Lilly House. Gorgeous any time of year, this historic mansion is transformed into a 1940s holiday wonderland complete with period holiday decor and more!

Next up, where else but shopping on Mass Ave? Decked with adorable small businesses, this is the perfect place to find unique gifts for everyone on your list. Our fave: Silver in the City!

While perusing the shops on Mass Ave, we’ve likely worked up an appetite. Fortunately, this artsy area is packed with restaurants. We recommend Bakersfield or Bru Burger - and a pit stop to The Flying Cupcake for dessert, of course!

Next, we’ll move on over to White River State Park to the Eiteljorg museum to take in the Jingle Rails exhibit. Whether you’re into toy trains or not, you are sure to be mesmerized by the adorable, miniature scenes as you travel from Indianapolis westward. Last year, USA Today named this an Indy “10Best” holiday attraction so it’s definitely a must-see!

Right next door to the Eiteljorg is our favorite attraction of all - Christmas at the Zoo! Wander the exhibits surrounded by millions of lights, snap some photos and and even take a dreamy carousel ride! Plus, polar bears. Enough said. Fun fact: Jaime got engaged here - how cute is that?!

Even if you’re not from out of town, why not make an (over)night of it? Located just east of the zoo is the beautiful JW Marriott Indianapolis hotel which is completely made of glass! This is the perfect place to stay and take in the gorgeous Christmas scenes of the city even after you call it a night.

Of course, we’re not ready to call it a night so it’s time to change into something a fancy and head to dinner at the Eagle’s Nest - a revolving, rooftop restaurant! See the entire city, including all of its holiday glory, as you dine and drink wine.

Stuffed and in need of a walk, we’ll take to the streets to walk around The Circle of Lights - home to the World’s Largest Christmas Tree we mentioned earlier. Horse-drawn carriages, carolers and beautiful lights make the perfect ending to a perfect day. Don’t worry, there’s a Starbucks! :)

The next morning, we’d finish with breakfast at our favorite downtown breakfast spot, Yolk, to try one of the many festive items on their holiday menu. How could you resist the Red Velvet French Toast during the holidays? YUM!

Sounds like a perfect weekend to us! What are some of your city’s best holiday attractions? We’d love recommendations below!
