Summer Style | Boots & Shorts

Warm weather is upon us and the hemlines are definitely getting shorter around here, friends. There's just something carefree about summer style that has us loving the boho trend - but not all of us feel that we can pull it off. If you're not the gypsy type by nature, we've got the perfect outfit inspiration to get you there: boots and shorts.
You might be thinking, "Boots? For summer?" That's right, be a rebel! Ankle boots are so much fun for spring and summer, and a great alternative to tired wedges (we still love you though, wedges!). Whether you adore something black with a bit of a heel or flat boots in a shade of brown, there is the perfect pair of boots out there for you. Match a pair of booties with high-waisted denim cutoffs and a crop top, a floral romper, or even a flowing kimono (seriously, how adorable does Jasmin Daily look on the far right above??) or lightweight jacket and they'll be naming you 'Gypsy Queen' by summer's end.

How do you feel about the shorts-and-boots trend? How are you wearing it this season? We'd love to get some outfit inspiration from you lovely ladies so feel free to share your thoughts below!

Fit to be Flared

Wearing – Top: Boutique purchase {old} | Jeans: Hudson's {old} | Wedges: Guess {similar} | Bracelets: Susie Raine, Olive + Piper | Watch: Vince Camuto | Necklaces: Layered & Long, J.Crew | Earrings: ILY Couture {on sale for $3.99!)

I'll admit that I totally purge my closet every now and again. I go through everything and either donate items or put them on eBay. However, I'm happy that I let this top hang around for quite some time. I bought this top as a soon-to-be sophomore in college and it's been hanging in my closet since then, waiting for me to wear it again. I love the loose, flowy style of the top and the comfort of my favorite Hudson's jeans. I'm happy to say the comfort level of this outfit was so over the top. To take it up a notch, I paired it with some fun jewelry, including layered necklaces and stacked bracelets. I'm so in love with this tassel necklace and have worn it a billion times since purchasing it on eBay–a total find for under $20!

Firecracker Cookies

I came across this recipe on Pinterest a couple of years ago and have been on the hunt for red, white and blue sprinkles every summer since then. Leave it to Target to stock these festive bits of fun - and in the dollar section no less! In observance of Memorial Day, I thought it was the perfect time to try this super simple cookie recipe so keep an eye out for these sprinkles and plan to make them for the 4th of July!

Firecracker Cookies

1 box of french vanilla cake mix 16.5 oz
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1/2 c vegetable oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 c sprinkles

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium size bowl, combine cake mix and baking powder. In small bowl, mix eggs, oil and vanilla extract. Add wet ingredients to dry mixture and stir to combine. Add in sprinkles, Drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheets and bake for 10-14 minutes.

And that's it! They're pretty, patriotic and oh so delicious! Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

Regal Faves | Birds of a Feather

Strut Your Stuff

Raise your hands if you absolutely love all of the flamingo clothing, accessories and decor that everyone from Kate Spade to Target is carrying? Yeah, that's what I thought. This little pink bird is having a major moment right now and I'm definitely down for the ride. My flamingo love isn't a recent obsession though. Last summer, it was a toss up between flamingo and pineapple printed items and this year I'm looking to our skinny legged friend, the flamingo, to usher in warm weather and summer fun. With summer looming just around the corner, what are you warm weather go-to items?

Checkered Chic

Top: SheInside | Denim: Old Navy (similar) | Heels: Oasap (similar) | Clutch: Express (old) |
Watch: Michael Kors | Love Bracelet: Baublebar (old) | Safety Pin Cuff: In Pink
X Ring: Baublebar | Earrings: The Shopping Bag

This weekend is the iconic Indy 500 and while you couldn't pay me to go to the race, I can appreciate a good tradition now and again. That's why I thought it was the perfect time to wear this adorable white checkered top I scored from SheInside last month. I'll admit, it had cute elastic sleeves but they were beyond tight. Sooo...I cut them. :) But doesn't the bow in the back totally make up for it?? Add black distressed denim and some statement heels and name me the honorary 500 Princess.

What are you guys up to this long, holiday weekend? I'm planning on doing some serious landscaping, getting some sun and spending time with family.

Flat Out Style

I think it's safe to say that I'm shoe obsessed and spring and summer are when I get to truly step up my shoe game–I mean after all, bright shoes are the perfect companion to warm weather and sunny days. From designer ballet flats to summery wedges and bright heels, I break out all of my favorites and wear them with pride. From brightly colored flats to basic neutral heels, this girl has yet to meet a pair of shoes she didn't like.

Many people think that heels are the only way to go. These people have not had the enjoyment of finding a comfortable and stylish ballet flat. Let's be honest here, heels are great if you're heading into the office and have minimal walking to do. But if you're like me, and never know how much walking you'll be doing, you opt for a flatter shoe that still adds the perfect finishing touch to your ensemble.

Pro tip: My favorite ballet flats are designed by Michael Kors and Sam Edelman. I've never been even slightly uncomfortable wearing either of these brands, and they are comfortable enough to wear all day long with ease!

Meijer Beauty Haul

A few weeks ago we introduced you to the Meijer Beauty Perks campaign where shoppers have the ability to save big on their favorite beauty buys by "clipping" coupons online and redeeming them with their phone number at checkout. Last week we headed to our local Meijer store to invest in some new spring beauty items...and some snacks for the drive back to the office, of course. :)

We were pleasantly overwhelmed with the size of the beauty department - it's HUGE - and they offer premium brands like BareMinerals, Philosophy, OPI and numerous other brands you would typically find only at a beauty specialty store! We loaded up on nail polish, skincare, haircare and makeup before heading to the snack aisle and stocking up there as well. If you're a Midwestern girl, we encourage you to download the mPerks app and head to Meijer to invest in some new beauty buys before the promo ends on May 16th!

Regal Review | Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse

If you're anything like us, you're already itching for your skin's summertime glow. Unfortunately for us, its frowned upon to lay out during work, so we turn to the next best thing to achieve a bronzed look–sunless tanners. We know what you're thinking. Probably something along the lines of, "We said summer glow, not radioactive orange." We're right there with you sisters, which is why when we were contacted by Cocoa Brown, we did our research and were more than happy to try out their 1 Hour Tan Mousse.

Cocoa Brown was launched by Marissa Carter in November of 2012 and is the number one selling line in Ireland and the UK. The line has recently hopped over the pond and is making its debut in the U.S., too! Let's just say, these two formerly pale girls couldn't be more excited. We have fallen in love with everything about this line–from its fast developing tan to easy application, quick drying formula and yummy floral fragrance, this sunless tanner is a must-have!

We think our results definitely speak for themselves:

Tips for Achieving a Bronzed Glow
  • Scrub-a-dub: Use a sugar or salt scrub to thoroughly slough off dead skin and prep your skin for its summer glow.
  • Skip the Lotion Prior to Application: Normally we'd reach for a lotion to moisturize after showering, but skip this step until after you tan has developed.
  • Use the Mitt: We can't stress enough how easy it was to use the Cocoa Brown mitt! This thing was awesome and allowed us to rub the tanning mousse in evenly. Double bonus for not having orange palms at the end, too!
  • Check out Your Glow: The directions say to watch as your tan develops over a one to three hour time period. We ended up leaving it on overnight and showering in the morning and found that we had the perfect sun-kissed glow.
  • Hydrate like a Champ: The best way to lengthen your glow is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Keeping your skin hydrated allows you get a full five-six day tan lifespan.
Don't you want to try it?! Visit CocoaBrown.ie to check out the rest of their product line and purchase online to get results for yourself! Also follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to join the tanning conversation!

Pink Flamingo

Wearing – Top: Target | Pants: 6pm {sold out} | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: c/o Shopbop | Bracelets: Olive + Piper | Watch: Vince Camuto | Necklace: Eleventh & Main

These white pants are definitely on repeat, what can I say? Last year I was on the hunt for perfect pair of white skinny jeans and always fell short. They were either completely see-through or just flat out didn't fit right. Did I mention trying on pants is like the bane of my existence? So when I finally found these, I was in love. Now I'm mad I didn't get them in a smaller size. But hey, you win some you lose some.

I've also fallen in love with flamingo print clothing and accessories. Summer is my favorite time of year and the bright pink hue of flamingos go hand-in-hand with the season. I recently saw the new Kate Spade #missadventures series featuring one of my faves, Anna Kendrick, and I fell in love with the flamingo printed Kate Spade collection and can't wait to scoop up the flamingo scarf and bikini! Who's with me!?
