Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day Picks
The older I get, the more I have come to realize that my mom truly is my best friend. That totally might sound like a foreign concept to some people, but my mom has always been my sounding board for everything. When I say everything, I mean everything. From TMI situations to my personal triumphs, she's always been my go-to source for information, advice and the occasional reality check. With Mother's Day around the corner (5/10), I always look for ways to show her how much I appreciate her.

I totally got my love of shopping, shoes and accessories directly from my mom. What can I say, we like to shop. Throw my sister in the mix and all hell could break loose at the mall, seriously. When buying gifts though, I typically purchase things I like that also align with the person's style that I'm buying for. Case in point: I'm a huge advocate for FarmHouse Fresh products. I've tried them and know they are great, so for people who like body care, that's my go-to line.

With all of these gift guides flying around in the blogosphere, what items have you found to give your mom for Mother's Day?

Turquoise & Tangerine

So apparently dressing in bright colors on Fridays is my thing. I wore this look to the office last Friday and you may remember this post which is what I wore on the previous Friday. Cheery colors for the best day of the week? Works for me!

I paired this ancient (for reals - it's like 3 years old) coral blazer with some pops of turquoise and these fabulous new heels that I got from Charlotte Russe's Buy-One-Get-One-For-$12 sale last week. I find myself turning to them when I'm in need of "fun" shoes and these are no exception! Open toe, snakeskin, and criss-cross straps - super duper fun.

What do an old blazer, borrowed clutch and the fact that Old Navy doesn't have jewelry on their website equal? No links for me to provide you. Sorry folks, just some pictures and snarky commentary is all you'll find here. :)

Fashion for A Cause

It's safe to say that I love fashion, but I am equally passionate about helping individuals who've been diagnosed with and are currently battling cancer. This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend The Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County's The Life, The Love & The Passion of Fashion 2015. This event sought to bring people from the community together to raise funds for my county's Cancer Care Fund, and I was more than happy to attend this event.

The event took place at Oakwood Resort on Lake Wawasee  in Syracuse, Indiana and was an amazing event overall. From the French themed decor, to the small boutique shopping experience, the event truly helped to bring people together and support the fund and the community overall.

I may be a city dweller now, but I am proud to be from the small town of Warsaw, Indiana. Time and time again this city has shown support for the people within like I've never seen before. While I did enjoy the fashion show and being able to shop from our local boutiques, I loved the cause that much more. To learn more about the Cancer Care group and donations can even be made from the comfort of your own home!

Regal Faves | Drugstore Beauty Gems

Drugstore Beauty Finds
Let me tell you, this girl loves Sephora. This girl also can't always afford buy everything she wants from there. That's when I skip over to the local Holy Grail, AKA Target, REDcard in hand. In all honesty, you'd be surprised at some of the hidden gems you can find when it comes to beauty (or everything - I mean, it's Target we're talking about here). Let's take a quick look at the items above and then head to your closest drugstore this weekend to try 'em out!

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum

I use this oil on the ends of my hair after I dry it. It soaks in super fast and keeps my ends looking healthy between hair appointments.

Garnier® Skin Renew Dark Spot Anti-Sun Damage Daily Moisturizer SPF 28

Jaime will probably punch me in the face for saying this (her eye cream alone costs $80 and that is just the beginning of her skincare regimen), but I really like this facial moisturizer. I've never been big into skincare but as I enter my late-late twenties, I'm beginning to take more notice. In a pinch, this one works great!

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray

So Meijer sent us this product to try out earlier this Winter and I love it! The bottle is huge, it's affordable and it works great. I spritz some on as the final step of my makeup application and it helps my makeup last throughout the day.

TRESemme Expert Selection Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray

I can be very lazy when it comes to my hair and since it also has a natural wave to it, some days I just let that mess air dry and spraying on some of this sea salt spray helps my waves form nicely and adds some great shine!

e.l.f. Blush - Twinkle Pink

There are some makeup items that I am perfectly fine with spending extra money on - blush is not one of them. I began using this blush last Fall and I adore it. And seriously - it's $3!!

NYX Lipstick

I'm not highlighting a specific color because let's face it, what looks good on me may not look good on someone else. What I am highlighting is the brand of lipstick. This lip color is highly pigmented, goes on smooth and lasts forever. Go pick a shade and give it a try!

COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Shadows - Shimmering Sands

How many times have you bought an expensive eye shadow palette only to use half the colors and never touch some of the others? I do it with nearly every one I have. I started using this eye shadow in high school and to this day, it is still my go-to. The Shimmering Sands trio offers the perfect shimmery neutral shades for every day.

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara

I love a good mascara but sometimes I just need something quickly. I decided to try this one when I saw someone else had compared it to my favorite TooFaced mascara. This one coats your lashes and spreads them out giving you full, dark lashes. It's a winner in my book!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

I love this concealer because of it's spungey applicator and that fact that it has ingredients that actually help erase the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and puffiness. It also works great as a highlighter for contouring!

These are some of my faves - what are your favorite drugstore beauty finds? I love trying new stuff!

Holy Chic

Wearing – Tshirt: Old Navy {old; almost exact} | Skirt: Express | Denim Jacket: Abercrombie {SO old} | Necklace: Eleventh & Main | Shoes: Kate Spade for Keds {similar} | Bracelets: Olive + Piper, Anthropologie {sold out} | Watch: Michael Kors | Purse: Rebecca Minkoff c/o Shopbop

While this title should totally be "Happy Days" as a throw-back to my sock hoppin' full midi-skirt and Kate Spade Keds, I had to go with "Holy Chic" instead. Call me crazy, but for some reason I totally felt like I was wearing a poodle skirt, so much so in fact that we joked about cutting out a white paper poodle and affixing it to my skirt.

In the grand scheme of things, I was happy just be out in the sun while taking blog photos. It's always challenging to find fun locations for blog photos, but when we stumbled across this park on our way to another spot, we knew we had to snap some pictures in this laid-back locale. We had planned on using the sunny day to our advantage and I think we totally got what we were hoping for!

Oh yeah, and excuse the pale legs. It's the first time they've seen sunlight since September or October and their florescence is nearly blinding. You're welcome.

Daisy Days

Top: Bisou Bisou (love this) | Pants: Old Navy | Shoes: Madden Girl | Scarf: Francesca's (no longer available but loving this and this) | Clutch: (old) | Watch: Vince Camuto | Safety Pin Cuff: InPink

Last Friday the weather was absolutely beautiful! It was hot and sunny and Jaime and I knew we had to take advantage of it (since it's been dreary and rainy lately) so we headed to a local park to snap photos on our lunch break. Of course, the gorgeous weather called for brights so I grabbed this sunny peplum from the back of my closet and paired it with my new daisy print scarf from Francesca's and these perfect white Rockstar jeans from Old Navy. Now after looking at these pictures, I'm thinking I need a good tan...summer are you here yet??

There's just something about fun elements such as flowing dresses, a fringe bag and 70s shoes that adds a carefree feel to summer that we crave. Polka Dots & Poor Lighting

Wearing – Blazer: Target {similar} | Tank: Nordstrom {On sale!} |
Jeans: Old Navy | Shoes: Nine West {old; similar} | Ring: BaubleBar
Watch: Vince Camuto | Necklace: J.Crew {old} | Purse: c/o ShopBop

We all know those fashion bloggers whose pictures are curated to perfection with picturesque backgrounds, perfectly styled coifs and ensembles. I think it's safe to say there's no need for jealousy over here. We're just basic bitches blogging. :-) From poor lighting (as seen today, yikes!) and windy days to accessories gone wild and my most recent comment "Help! My face has fallen and it can't get up!", we do our best to be authentic and share with our readers the trials and tribulations of the blogging world, along with some fun fashion on the side. As 8-5ers we are always rushing to get outfit photos taken over lunch before running errands, wolfing down our food and finishing the rest of our workday. Super fun right?

On another note–how adorable is this Rebecca Minkoff Satchel?! I got her during ShopBop's recent sale and I can say that I'm totally in love with the shape and color. The aloe tone is perfect for spring and definitely brightens up this black and white look. (Thank god, because thanks to a super overcast day our normally perfect brick wall spot was a little too shady for this girl's liking.)
