Take that Polar Vortex–Braving the Cold with Style

Jaime's Look Features: Pink Plaid Button-Up (similar found here) | Citizens Bootcut Jeans | Ugg Moccasins | Tulle Puffer Vest (Similar Found here) | Michael Kors Blair Watch | David Yurman Cable Wrap Pendant

The arctic weather the past couple of weeks has pretty much ensured my hibernation period until it’s moved its way through. After being cooped up for what feels like an eternity, I’ve ventured out over lunch today to grab some essentials at Trader Joe’s. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been living in bulky wool sweaters, fleece leggings or skinny jeans and whatever tall boots match my outfit, so it’s nice to say I can shed some layers and actually wear something cute again!

While going through my closet to find something warm, yet stylish today, I decided to pair a super cute pink flannel that I purchased this fall (as seen in this post) with a my fave Citizens boot cut jeans. To finish off the look I added a ruffled puffer vest and my Ugg shearling moccasins–hey, I have to stay warm some how, so the fancy footwear has been taking a break since the fall.

How are you dressing to combat this cold weather? Has it affected your social calendar? I know I’ve been pretty anti-social lately due to the cold and lack of motivation! Spring can’t come early enough for this girl.

High Fashion Files | A Michael Kors Dilemma

I’ve never been the type to want a bag just because it’s popular (a Coach bag with the iconic “C’s” printed all over it was never my style), but the Michael Kors Hamilton bags with the shiny little lock are just too cute to resist! When Jaime and I were in our local store shortly before Christmas and saw the new Hamilton Specchio totes, I knew I had to have the tan one with rose gold hardware. I put the bag on my wishlist, sent my husband the link and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, the bag went out of stock before the holidays.

Not yet ready to give up, I contacted Michael Kors customer service to find out if it were in-stock anywhere to have shipped to me. I was curtly informed that the bag was “discontinued due to depletion of stock” and was given a link to a list of all of their stores - in the world - and told that I could contact them if I wished. Thanks for the help - not!

Last week, Jaime and I made a trip to the mall on our lunch break so that she could return something to Anthropologie. We were headed to the food court when what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a Specchio tote with sparkling rose gold hardware - right in the store window! Not letting this one pass me by again, I marched into the store and bought it for myself. Afterall, it’s okay to splurge sometimes! And isn’t she pretty?!

Jaime’s comment on the situation? “Now you’ve got the bag that you wanted, next up, designer sunglasses!” Here we go again…

What designer accessory is “the one” for you?

A Fashionably Fit New Year

You watched the ball drop at midnight and spent the evening munching away on deliciously decadent foods and drinks, but now that January is here, many people have set in place a resolution to lose weight, tone up, etc in 2014. While we don’t disagree with this resolution by any means, we often find it hard to get back into a workout routine after a month-long binge session of holiday parties and family get-togethers. In order to put your best foot forward and help with your fitness goals, we suggest adding a few stylish activewear pieces to your arsenal. After all, when you look good, you feel good!

New Year, New You

5 Fitness Tips to Help Kickstart Your New Year’s Resolution

  1. Set small goals for yourself, whether it be in trips to the gym or in increments of weight loss. But keep in mind, the scale doesn’t always show your progress–judge your progress on how your clothes are fitting.
  2. Mix it up. When your body acclimates to your routine, you may see a decline in results. Try to change up your regimen regularly for muscle confusion.
  3. Water. Water. Water. Your body can send out mixed signals making you think you are hungry, when it fact you just need to slurp some water. Also, if you are shooting for weight loss, cutting out soda/sugary drinks can help move you towards your goal.
  4. Just because you are watching what you eat doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of the good stuff; just be weary of your calorie intake. For example, if you know you are going to have a big, not-so-healthy dinner, cut back on snacks that day or have a lighter lunch to accommodate your indulgence.
  5. Find a motivator. Exercise can be daunting at times, so keep your motivation in mind and reward yourself once you’ve reached a small goal. For example, buy a pair of jeans a size too small now and work towards your goal of fitting into them.

Red Carpet Radiance | The 2014 Golden Globes

Last night, some of my favorite celebrities donned their finest formal wear to attend the first major awards show of the year, the 2014 Golden Globes. As awards season begins, celebrities have a chance to reinvent their red carpet looks. Whether their looks last year were off the charts or just so-so, each person has a chance to start fresh and this year was no exception. While the main focus of the Golden Globes is to honor actors and actresses from my favorite films and TV series, the beautifully tailored dresses, pristine makeup and sparkling accessories always take center stage.

Hosted by comedy-favorites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, this year’s red carpet brought some surprise wins and as strange as it is to say, some expected wins. After viewing last nights show, we are now even more excited to see American Hustle and the newly released, Her. While I was happy to watch some of my favorite celebs take the stage to claim their award, I was even more excited to see the fashion. Below are some of my favorite looks from the evening:

Red Carpet Ready at the 2014 Golden Globes
1. Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Roberto Cavalli |  2. Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad | 3. Michelle Dockery in Oscar De La Renta | 4. Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney | 5. Maria Menounos in BCBG Max Azria | 6. Laura Dern in Roberto Cavalli | 7. Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen | 8. Mila Kunis in Emilio Pucci |
9. Rosci Diaz in Edie Parker

Each of the ladies above should thank their lucky stars that they are fortunate enough to have fantastic stylists. Their looks were completely amazing and so well thought through. While I love the BCBG dress that Maria Menounos is pictured wearing, my standout favorite look of the evening was Emma Roberts wearing the Lanvin dress seen below. The neckline is such a classic look, yet tailored to perfection, making her appear to have more of an hourglass shape. It reminds me so much of the beautiful dress Rosemary Clooney was wearing in the holiday classic White Christmas. Finished off with a classic chignon bun with a deep side part and a smokey eye, this look was amazing!

Modern vs. Classic Hollywood
Congrats to each of the Golden Globe winners for their hard work! If you watched, what was your favorite look?
