Regal Outfit of the Day | Leather, Studs, and Leopard, Oh My!

It's been a little chilly (and a lot rainy) here in Indy lately...I guess fall has truly begun! I felt that it was the perfect time to try out my coated skinnies. They have a slight sheen that resembles leather, but have a comfy denim feel. Let me just say that they are SUPER comfortable and I absolutely love them! (Jaime recently wore a pair in this post) I suppose you can say that dying my hair dark has me feeling in the mood to sport a more bold look this fall.

Take a look at this fun, punk-inspired outfit I recently wore for a day at the office, and please excuse the photo quality as the rain forced us inside to take pictures in the studio.

Fall '13 Focus: How To Wear Plaid

If you’re like us, you’ve probably avoided the plaid trend –– especially since we live in the Midwest. Confusing a high fashion runway trend for a simple country girl is not what we’re trying to achieve here! But, 2013 is a year of change and I’m actually excited to give this one a try! This fall has brought about a number of exciting trends allowing us to incorporate plaid in unique ways we might not have otherwise considered. Take a look at some of my favorite plaid looks that I’ve found on Pinterest for this season...

The punk trend is one way to tie in plaid elements. I absolutely love this look! The plaid scarf with a studded leather jacket, basic white tee, and rolled ankle pants gives off an edgy vibe while still being sophisticated enough to not look like a rebellious teen. And this stylish lady even went one step further and mixed in some lovely leopard print booties to tie it all together.

While it’s not uncommon for men to sport plaid in the office, it’s a little less popular with the women. This look is super fresh and perfect for fall with a bright pencil skirt and comfy, flannel plaid blouse dressed up with pave chain link jewelry and patent heels.

As fall nears winter, we’ll find ourselves piling on the layers to keep warm. This look is one example of the perfect way to do just that! This oversized, red plaid top with a fur vest (faux, of course!) and black leggings make for a stylish look that is completely different from the usual plaid button-up, denim, and riding boots.

Here is another great look integrating a red, plaid print, but this time inspired by another fall trend –– menswear. This oversized blouse resembles a mens shirt, but pairs nicely with black skinny pants and leopard heels for a feminine look. What ties it all together? Sparkly, girly accessories and a studded statement bag!

If you’re looking to try the leather trend this fall but aren’t sure you can pull it off, consider a look like this one. I love the ‘rough-n-tough meets ladylike’ feel of it. Another trend to be on the lookout for this fall is 1940s vintage, and this leather swing skirt is a perfect fit! Complete the look with strappy heels, an oversized bag and a cute little top knot for the perfect mix of naughty and nice.

Regal Outfit of the Day | Snake Print Tunic, Leggings & Studded Flats

Bare with me folks–I'm years behind this leggings trend. I was always of the mindset that I have bigger thighs and these ham hocks weren't made for leggings. However, I've changed my way of thinking for a lot of clothing items, not just leggings, and I thought I would give them a shot. So I donned my first pair of leggings and paired them with a neutral print tunic and off I went! First of all, even though I'm a legging novice, I highly recommend getting a pair of fleece-lined ones. Not only are they comfortable, but they were super warm and will be perfect to pair with boots and sweaters this fall. If you're located in Indianapolis, stop in the boutique Utterly Pink in Broad Ripple and they have plenty of colors to choose from!

Regal Outfit of the Day | Colored Skinnies & Embellished Peter Pan Collar

On Monday it really felt like fall here in Indy –– finally! It was chilly and breezy but the sun was still shining brightly. Jaime and I have been super busy at work in the final stages of planning our annual meeting taking place in a few weeks in San Diego, but we always make time for great style! This season I'm loving autumnal colored skinnies, especially those in mustard and burgundy like the ones below, and embellished details. Whether it's a jeweled collar or a pair of fun flats, it's always fun to have add a little glitz to your everyday look! Anywho, here's my outfit of the day...

Runway Closeup: House of Versace

Anyone else tune in to House of Versace on Lifetime this past weekend? We did and were pleasantly surprised by the network’s portrayal. From the edgy, sex-infused styles that brought life to the Milan fashion scene under Gianni’s reign of the 1990s, to the new vision of Donatella after his tragic death, Versace is a powerhouse that continues to send breathtaking designs down the runway.

In honor of the Italian-based fashion house, we thought now would be a perfect time to catch up on Versace of 2013. Check out these gorgeous looks from Atelier Versace’s Fall/Winter 2013 and Spring/Summer 2014 collections as we pay homage to the iconic designer.

Fall/Winter 2013

This collection had a very minimal color palette, focusing on darker shades typical of fall and winter season such as black, burgundy and navy. While the classic shapes and S&M inspiration of leather and harness tops were a throwback to Gianni’s days in the house, Donatella added her own modern touches with pops of leather, lace and metallics.

Spring/Summer 2014

While the dust has yet to settle on the runways of Milan Fashion Week S/S 2014 which ended mere days ago, Versace’s new collection has us anticipating the arrival of next year’s trends. Although black and leather maintained a presence within the collection, brilliant whites and splashes of brights and pastels such as lilac and yellow were the focal point. Flowing and futuristic shapes with metallic and feathered accents made the gowns showstoppers, as always.

So what do you think? Do you think Donatella is doing a good job of carrying on Gianni's legacy?

Regal Outfit of the Day | Coated Denim & Hi-Low Peplum Top

Happy Friday! With the last nice warm days coming few and far between, I opted to mix and match some summer and fall apparel for my outfit of the day. Coated denim is super stylish for fall and both Kacie and I have been clambering to get our hands on this trend. While there are several options for coated denim, I opted for a black pair of Rich & Skinny jeans that have a subtle yet noticeable shiny sheen. I tend to dress super girly, so I paired the edgy coated denim with a feminine hi-low peplum top. I finished off the look with calf-hair leopard pumps, an orange statement necklace and gold BCBG spike bangles. This look was super easy to throw together and I felt awesome wearing it! I know if I can branch out and try this new style of denim, you can too!

Transitioning your Fragrances to Fall

We’ve got you covered when it comes to fall! Right now you’re slowly beginning to store your spring and summer wardrobe, while bringing out cozy sweaters and leggings for the fall-like weather. However, one important transition you’ve probably overlooked is your fragrance choice. One of my favorite things about the season is that you can wear “heavier” fragrances that have richer, fuller top notes. For example, while fruity and floral scents are perfect for spring and summer, fall and winter scents tend to be spicier. Check out some of my personal faves below:

Fall Fragrance Round Up 2013

1. Bond No 9 - Manhattan

Let me start out by saying you can’t go wrong with the entire Bond No 9 collection. While it’s a tad bit pricey, the fragrances are well worth it. With each new addition to this New York-based line, Perfumista Laurice Rahme absolutely blows me away. Her fragrances are unique and unlike anything you’ve ever smelled...but I digress. Manhattan is a relatively new fragrance for Bond No 9 and it’s one of my faves for fall and winter. It’s definitely a fragrance that will have you turning heads as you walk by! (As you can tell, I have an obsession with Bond.)

Fragrance notes include: fresh coriander, corsican immortelle, spicy nutmeg, juicy Italian bergamot, gold saffron, gourmand gingerbread, cashmere wood, french genet, provence star jasmine, cistus flower, gourmand red plum, breches honey, rare agarwood, oriental musk, creamy sandalwood and suede.

2. Viktor & Rolf - Flowerbomb

Back in my Bath & Body Works days, my favorite fragrance was Sensual Amber. Upon smelling Viktor + Rolf's Flowerbomb, I fell in love and Sensual Amber went by the wayside. This fragrance has an amazing rich patchouli undertone, mixed with jasmine, making it one of my go-to fragrances for fall and winter. It’s a heavy fragrance, but still exudes femininity.

Fragrance notes include: tea and bergamot, sambac jasmine, orchid, freesia, rose, patchouli

3. Elie Saab - Le Parfum Eau De Parfum

Alright, alright, I know I said to steer clear of florals, but this Elie Saab fragrance is an amazing floral blend that still provides the rich, deep fragrance notes for fall. After all, anything described as creating “an encounter as feminine as the trail of an evening gown” has to be amazingly chic right?

Fragrance notes include: harmony of white flowers, cedar woods and a drop of honey

4. Michael Kors - Gold Rose Edition

Okay, I’ll admit it...I haven’t smelled Michael Kors Gold Rose Edition, but it sounds amazing and I’ve been reading lots of hype about this little bottle of fun. Henri Bendel used to make an amazing Jasmine & Tuberose line that I loved, but alas it was discontinued. I’m hoping this one will be a close match with the deeper notes for fall.

Fragrance notes include: tuberose and sandalwood

5. Juicy Couture - Juicy Couture Perfume

This Juicy Couture fragrance has been in my favor since first sniff. When shopping one Christmas for a new perfume (yes, I buy myself a gift each year!), I ran across this beautiful bottle and had to give it a whirl. I sprayed it on myself, and low and behold, I could still smell it the next day. It’s got this amazingly warm vanilla note to it, but then mixes in this delicious sweet dessert-like smell. YUM! Overall, this is a great one for fall and winter...and you can’t go wrong with the regal packaging, right?

Fragrance notes include: watermelon, mandarin, pink passion fruit, marigold, green apple, water hyacinth, crushed leaves, tuberose absolute, wild rose, princess lily, tuberose, caramel creme brulee, vanilla, precious woods, patchouli

As you can see, I love perfume almost as much as I love shoes. I love all of these dearly, but I am completely and utterly smitten with the Bond No 9 line. You’ve seen what fragrances I’ll be using this fall...what are some of your favorites?

Weekend Recap: Anderson Apple Orchard

On Saturday morning, Jarrod and I headed to Anderson Apple Orchard for their annual fall festival, and boy was it crowded! Upon our arrival, we drove through the orchard but were overwhelmed by the different varieties of apples and ended up heading back to the Apple Barn to make our purchases.

Here we sampled a deliciously sugary elephant ear and apple cider slush, and bought a gallon of apple cider and a half peck of sweet Jonathan apples. After perusing the pumpkin patch and dodging the hoards of bees we were ready to head back home, and I was ready to try my hand at homemade apple crisp.

While the weather was beautiful, it wasn’t ideal for my weekend of fall festivities. A trip to the apple orchard should have called for a jacket, scarf and boots, but alas, I was left to figure out how I could create a fall-inspired look that was comfortable for walking around in sunny, 85 degree temperatures.

Get the look: Ily Couture Bubble Necklace | Michael Kors MK Flip Flop | Steve Madden Sunglasses (Similar seen here) | Denim Capris | Camoflage Burnout Tee | Handbag (Similar seen here)

I threw on some simple denim capris, Michael Kors flip flops (I know, I know, it’s time to put the flip flops away), a super soft camo tee, a gold Alisa Michelle bangle and Steve Madden sunglasses. I added some pops of fall color with a red bubble necklace and an orange purse to tie it all together. It might not be groundbreaking style but it was cute and comfy nonetheless! Check out some of my favorite Instagram photos from the weekend ––

I’m now more excited than ever for fall, and it’s only just begun! What fall festivities are you most looking forward to, and how are you planning to adjust your style to accommodate the changing weather?
