Regal Runway Favorites - NYFW S/S 2014

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week brought renown designers to the city of New York to debut their spring and summer collections for 2014. As with any event, designers brought out their best and brightest pieces with the anticipation of setting the next season’s biggest trend. While we appreciated all of the designers for their artistry, we each had different designers and trends that stood out amongst the rest as our favorites of the week. We look forward to incorporating each of the showcased spring/summer trends (seen here and here) into our clothing arsenal––but, first let’s get through fall and winter.

Check out some of our favorite looks that debuted at NYFW!

From the plunging necklines to the flowy skirts and feminine patterns and fabrics, my style is very girl. Its no wonder I was drawn to designer Marissa Webb and her beautiful juxtaposition of structured lines and soft whimsical flow. Her designs have such an effortless femininity about them, without being too over the top. I loved it all–from her jackets and shorts to the clean, crisp dresses–she definitely knows how to show off the artistry of design. Not only did she incorporate florals and contrasting black and white pieces, she debuted some of the most beautiful metallic blush toned skirts and dresses. Magnifique!

Another favorite was J. Mendel who provided some standout pieces that not were not only elegant, but also appeared to be uber-luxe in shape and material. The ensemble I most loved was his coral lace gown that featured a beautiful neckline as well as elongating lines, sure to make any lady feel that much more elegant when wearing it. Designer Zimmerman took the stage and created an amazing combination of ladylike meets edgy seductress. While all of Zimmerman’s looks were amazing, my favorite design was a cutout black wrap top with a flowing floral skirt.

Diane von Furstenberg created show-stopping pieces as always in a variety of prints, crop tops and of course her iconic wrap dresses. She stayed true to her traditionally feminine pieces, while incorporating metallic fabric and accented prints. The designer who always has my heart, BCBG, incorporated my go-to look of black and white in chic dresses and structured skirts. Another standout to me was the Badgely Mischka show, who knocked it out of the part with their their intricately designed dresses and effortlessly chic floral prints.

From Bottom Left - Alice + Olivia, Michael Kors, Zimmermann, Nicole Miller

As you can tell from my selections, I love a mix of both edgy and feminine looks –– depending on my mood. While there were pieces that I loved from each designer, the collections by Nicole Miller and Alice + Olivia were my sure favorites. Nicole Miller had a new take on the floral trend with hints of metallics and pops of color on a mostly black & white palette, ultimately giving me my fix of ladylike and attitude. Not to mention that the shoes from her collection were to-die-for (take a look at these and these!) with a fun mix of vibrant color, prints and patterns.

Alice + Olivia was uber-feminine (as usual) with adorable mini dresses, classic skirts, and light sweaters, while Michael Kors and Zimmermann went vintage with 1940s-esque swing skirts, pencil skirts, and wrap dresses. This is one trend I’m truly excited about trying out come spring! Always with an attention to detail, Christian Siriano and Noon by Noor took florals three dimensional with floral appliques for their absolutely stunning creations. Along with a long line of other designers, Marissa Webb also did a fabulous job of implementing the metallic trend. This rose gold mini skirt and blouse with a monochromatic necktie was one of my very favorite looks from the week!

While we didn’t attend Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, we watched like hawks from the sidelines as designers sent beautiful garments down the runway––which truly inspired us for the upcoming spring season! After looking at some of our favorites, as well as the chatter you’ve seen on social media sites, what are your favorite looks that debuted from the spring collections?
