Fall ‘13 Trend Report

While models are gracing runways around the world sporting anticipated trends for Spring/Summer 2014, I’m sitting here in the Midwest thinking back to last spring when Fashion Month was all about fall. With the start of autumn just days away, I thought now would be the perfect time to do a little recap of a few of the upcoming season’s trends that I’m most looking forward to.

Fall '13 Punk

I’m really excited for this trend! A throwback to 90s grunge, this look can easily be incorporated into your style this fall -- without looking like a rebellious teenager. Last spring, the runways were overrun (in a good way) with models wearing plaid, leather, destroyed graphic tees, buckled boots, and studded accessories. If you’re into this trend, make plans to invest in some fun graphic tees; they’re a must-have!

While you may be thinking that this look is obviously a weekend look, that’s not necessarily the case. It’s versatile enough to be office appropriate too! How? Basically, it’s all in the subtle details. Shop around for a studded clutch, a bold plaid scarf, a leather and leopard blouse, or coated denim - Jaime and I have both made recent investments in these, keep a lookout for a style post in the near future.

Fall '13 Ladylike

On the opposite end of the style spectrum, the ladylike trend is ideal for more conservative stylistas. I personally love vintagey trends (in a modern way -- I’m no thrift shopper!) so I’m looking forward to this one as well. Oversized coats were all the rage at Fashion Week, as were fur embellishments, structured bags and belted ensembles. Menswear fabrics such as herringbone, houndstooth, and tartan also made regular appearances, not only on outerwear, but on dresses, skirts, and blouses too.

While pastels are typically reserved for spring, it was interesting to see them being incorporated into fall and winter looks on the runway. Classic shapes like midi-length swing skirts, pencil dresses, and form fitting cardigans should be on your wish list for this achieving this lovely look.

As you think about how you can incorporate these looks into your wardrobe, Jaime and I will be heading to a local Indianapolis boutique–Utterly Pink–to acquire some fall-esque pieces for our closets, and we’ll surely be keeping these trends in mind! We’ll have a recap next week so stay tuned, ladies.

Now, what trends are you looking most forward to this season? Will you be rocking the ladylike and punk trends this fall?
