A Runway Recap: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (Part 1)

If we haven’t said it a billion times already, we’ll say it again–we love fall. The cozy sweaters, boots and jackets...and we can’t forget Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week that forecasts the trends and looks that will be gracing stores during the spring/summer months of the following year. This year’s Fashion Week was a force to be reckoned with and featured the industry’s top looks and beauty trends to watch-for. While almost all the looks were completely swoon-worthy, we compiled the trends that we feel will have the biggest presence next year.

Braids

It’s not just the clothes we’re looking at! Beauty trends also start on the runway and it’s no surprise that braided do’s were seen everywhere. From Rebecca Minkoff’s braided updo to Alice + Olivia’s stylish fishtail braids, this subtle, yet sassy style will be influencing spring beauty.

Floral Prints

New York Fashion Week debuted fun, flirty floral prints in pants, jackets, dresses and skirts. While floral prints may seem blasé and a spring norm, these prints were runway show-stoppers as designers paired floral prints with other bold patterns, like the Nicole Miller dress above. One thing’s for sure, this fun print is going to be a spring must-have and definitely isn’t your grammy’s florals anymore!

Cropped Tops

Designs across the board, from Tommy Hilfiger to BCBG, interwove crop tops into their spring collections, creating not only interesting lines but unique takes on the traditional cropped top. It’s time to get your crunch on ladies and work on those abs because cropped tops are here to stay! For a ladylike-look pair a cropped top with skirts to show off those abs (and dedicated gym regimen, of course!).

Head-to-Toe White

Monochromatic looks were a HUGE part of New York Fashion Week and nothing shone brighter than head-to-toe white looks. We’re not sure about you, but these all white ensembles reminded us of a very Hamptons-chic look! Designers like Rebecca Minkoff, Zac Posen and Tibi burned white-hot as they sent their models strutting down the runway. While an all white ensemble seems impractical for everyday, these looks can also incorporate some of spring's other huge trends, including white cropped tops, lace shorts and skirts. Add a crisp blazer to your look and you’ll be turning heads in no-time flat!

Every season we’re even more amazed by the creativity and talent each designer brings to the runway. While clothing designs may seem simplistic to some, we see it as an art that should be appreciated for the skill and the technique needed to create each “masterpiece”. There were far too many trends to recount in one post––and we haven’t even begun to show you our favorites! Stay tuned for part two of our Runway Recap series...

Of all of the trends featured above, which is most likely to make it into your spring arsenal?
